Guardian responsibilities include but not limited to:
- Assist Veterans with getting their boarding passes, lanyard badges, and jackets at check-in.
- Help get the Veterans through security and to the bus.
- Assist in boarding/unboarding the bus, going up/down escalators, bus stairs, and in the bathrooms.
- Spending quality time with the Veteran throughout the day – listening to their stories and taking pictures.
IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO APPLY TO BE A GUARDIAN, YOU MUST MEET THE FOLLOWING QUALIFICATIONS:
- Spouses or significant others of Veterans going on the flight are NOT eligible to be Guardians
- Must be between the ages of 18+ ( our fitness test is simple can you push a veterans in a wheelchair for 3 miles over 3 hours?)
- Must be willing to assist all Veterans as needed
- Must be physically capable of performing the Guardian role, which includes assisting Veterans getting in/out of seats and wheelchairs; up/down escalators; and up/down stairs
- Must be able to push your Veteran in a wheelchair for a minimum of one hour at a time including up and down inclines
- Must be capable of independent communication with Veterans, staff, and others
- Must attend Mandatory Guardian Training
- Guardian is responsible for paying a guardian trip fee as determined by Central PA Honor Flight Board.
- Central PA Honor Flight reserves the right to disqualify any guardian based on the requirements listed above.
